Statement:

My interest in printmaking as a binary art form coincides with my understanding of drumming and sound– positive/negative, hit/rest, trough/crest, something is either there or it’s not. Space is the place. 1’s and 0’s. Seriousness in play is important. Pattern, repetition, rhythm, noise, and interference are qualities that I apply and seek out in both my image and sound making. My goal is to achieve complexity through simple means and limitations.

_Haploid (sound) was created by performing variations on a single pattern programmed with a PO-32 drum machine. The resulting sound was digitally recorded, edited, and mastered in Reaper.

_Haploid (image) was created by hand printing an arranged set of modular relief blocks onto Thai Kozo paper. The resulting print was put through a Marvy Uchida crimper.
