In Spring of 2026 I was fortunate to be offered to visit the College of Dupage in Glen Ellyn, IL, for two weeks as a Community-Artist-in-Residence. This is a wonderfully generous program that invites artists to campus to create work, lecture and lead workshops/projects with students.

I spent my two weeks creating a sizable body of monotype prints and audio recordings, looking across the press to watch the thawing pond as the Chicago winter yielded to the an early spring. Each day I would explore the county’s extensive nature preserve and trail system, recording audio and taking notes about the experience of these natural areas surrounded by suburban sprawl. Each evening I would commute back to Forest Park to record improvised guitar, playing against the found sound of the parks I walked earlier in the day.

The result of this time is a set of contrasting elements. The quiet of a snow covered prairie punctuated with the hum of city traffic and airplane whirr. The green space of a marsh perforated with the signs of subdivisions and strip malls.

The prints I created seek to make visual analogs to this rich blend of preserve / sprawl: drawn vs printed, group vs singular, color vs achromatic, pattern vs meander, etc.
